Blue skies and crisp deep snows in Shropshire, England on the 9th December 2017. Living on a narrow country lane with steep inclines in either direction before reaching even a ‘B’ road meant that for a few days we were ‘imprisoned’ in this winter wonderland – but what a delightful prison!

The 12th Century Buildwas Abbey in Shropshire, England
Anthony J Sargeant took this photograph In Buildwas Abbey in 2010. Originally a Cistercian Monastery near the banks of the River Severn in Shropshire, England. It was a casualty of Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th Century. It is a now a magnificent and largely intact but roofless example of 12th Century architecture. It is just a few miles from Ironbridge which attracts hordes of visitors – but few venture along the river to find this beautiful quiet place which is maintained by English heritage.
The magnificent 12th Century Cistercian Abbey at Buildwas, near Ironbridge, Shropshire, England
Photographed by Anthony J Sargeant on a sunny summer’s day this magnificent 12th Century Cistercian abbey church is largely intact although roofless (it was closed and plundered by Henry VIII in the 16th Century Dissolution of the Monasteries). In the care of English Heritage it was notable how few visitors there were while just a few miles away Ironbridge was packed with tourists, oblivious to this gem so very close by.
Highly recommended for peace and tranquility this is a gem of Norman archicture.

Primroses are flowering in Shropshire
The English countryside is starting to come to life as Spring approaches. Around the Shropshire home of Anthony J Sargeant primroses are flowering in sheltered spots and some lanes have been carpeted with snowdrops for a few weeks. It will be good to get some more daylight as Spring approaches and some warmth into the soil.
Ancient Yew Tree on Wenlock Edge
This ancient Yew tree was photographed by Anthony Sargeant just off the foot path that runs along the top of Wenlock Edge in Shropshire, England. It has a diameter in excess of two metres and must have grown undisturbed in its remote location for hundreds if not thousands of years.
Shropshire sunset
This splendid Shropshire sunset was photographed by Anthony Sargeant from his home in the Corve Valley at 4pm on the 14th December 2016. Looking out across the meadows that surround the house the outline of the ancient oaks that abound in the area can be seen silhouetted against the sky. It is a very quiet and beautiful part of the world with its ever changing seasons.
Early bird – bright moon over Wenlock Edge —
Anthony Sargeant took this photograph at 7.30 am on the 16th November 2016 from the garden of his Shropshire home looking towards Wenlock Edge. The moon has been very bright the past few nights and it was still in the sky as the early bird flew up from the copse by the River Corve.
August Harvest in Shropshire, England
Anthony Sargeant took this photograph of the field opposite his Shropshire home during the harvest in 2015. Today, on a frosty December morning, it seems an age away. The view is from the dormer window of the main bedroom.
