Antique Caucasian Carpet (Talish) in the collection of Anthony J Sargeant

Bought at auction by Tony Sargeant many years ago this 19th Century Caucasian carpet has a bold geometric design and could probably be attributed to Talish. Woven on a woolen warp and weft it shows some wear lines and low areas of pile but overall it is in surprisingly good condition with good pile and natural dye throughout (in this context it is important to remember that synthetic dyes reached the Caucuses very soon after their invention around the 1850s because of the Railway).
